Behind the turquoise twin-tails and futuristic charm of Hatsune Miku lies the real human voice of Saki Fujita, a Japanese voice actress and singer. Fujita’s voice became the foundation for Miku’s sound when Crypton Future Media developed the virtual idol using Yamaha’s Vocaloid voice synthesis technology.

To create Miku’s voicebank, Fujita recorded thousands of syllables and vocal expressions, each meticulously captured and processed. These recordings were then digitally assembled so that when users input melodies and lyrics, Miku could “sing” them with Fujita’s tone and inflection.

While Miku has become a global phenomenon—performing in holographic concerts and inspiring countless creators—her existence remains deeply rooted in Fujita’s human artistry. It is Fujita’s clear, youthful voice that gives life and emotion to the virtual diva, reminding us that even in a world of digital music, the soul of sound still begins with a human touch.
